Can’t Help But Celebrate

Today is Easter Sunday. This week at Gateway we didn’t have a lot of visitors. We weren’t really on our “A” game. But God showed up and did something great. For the third weekend in a row we had a response to our salvation altar call.

Jesus told us that there is rejoicing before the angels in Heaven when one soul comes to salvation. Over the last three weekends, a total of 11 souls have given their hearts to Jesus for the first time, or as a rededication. Eleven. I can’t imagine what the angels have been doing up there.

Simply put, I can’t help but join the celebration. God is starting something here. I have told others that I wasn’t mentally prepared for it. But I’m not going to tell God to stop or put it on hold, not for a moment.

[Q:] What is God doing in your life? What is He doing that makes you want to celebrate?

Bringing the People of Your Church to “The Table”

There is a great debate raging over the role of Social Media in the church and ministry. I believe that is becomes increasingly more important as the target age for your ministry lowers. However, the number of churchgoers using the internet and its social systems continues to rise.

Today I stumbled upon a new system, made for churches, that integrates other social apps while maintaining a specific connection point for the local church. It is called The Table. From their website: “The Table Project is not about technology. It is not about creating a virtual church. It’s about using the tools around us to unite the Body of Christ.”

Unlocking Your Heart For A New Place Of Ministry

When was the last time you moved in ministry? Five years? A year? A month? We as ministers are not immune to the seasonal changes in life that move us from one place of service to another.

Statistically, a pastor’s tenure is 3 years (Parsonage.org). At times the circumstances of change are the realization of years of preparation or the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, while others can be difficult personally and emotionally. Unfortunately, we are able to tell fewer stories of celebration than we can of hurt.

A Pastor’s Christmas Card

As a pastor, you need to think differently about some things. One of those is Christmas cards. This year our family decided not to give out Christmas cards at church. This way no one gets left out. Instead, let me leave this message for all to read:

Two thousand years ago, God prepared the world for the birth of His Son. The world was ripe for receiving and spreading the Good News.

This year God prepared a church and a pastor, bringing them together for the first time. It has been our great joy and privilege to join the family at Gateway Assembly.

Now God is preparing a church and its pastor for great things. God has something amazing in store for all who are now among us, and includes many who have yet to come along.

Open your hearts and minds to God’s leading. He will walk with you, provide for you, and guide you through every blessing and every trial that life will bring. You are not alone, for He will never leave you. And we’re with you, too.

Merry Christmas. May you and your families be blessed this Christmas season, into the New Year, and Beyond!

Before You Delegate – 2

In a previous post, we talked about how we should never delegate before taking the time to train, and some of the problems that arise if we forget to follow that rule. There are a couple of other issues to consider before we start training a staff member, ministry leader or other volunteer.

The first of these issues deals with us, the pastor or leader who is planning on handing over a task or ministry to another person. We have to make sure that we have prepared ourselves to let go.
